Activated plasma therapy, also known as APC therapy (activated plasma therapy) or PRP therapy (platelet-rich plasma therapy), is a treatment in which the patient's own blood plasma is used to relieve pain and damage to the musculoskeletal system. Plasma is a yellowish fluid found in blood cells that contains many important nutrients, proteins and cells needed for tissue healing and repair.
APC therapy is performed by taking a small amount of blood from the patient and centrifuging it in a special procedure to separate the plasma from the other blood components. The resulting plasma-rich plasma is then “activated” with certain substances, such as enzymes or drugs, to improve the plasma's healing ability.
The activated plasma is then injected into the affected area of the body to promote tissue healing and repair and relieve pain.
APC therapy is often used for musculoskeletal pain, such as in the knees, hips, shoulders, elbows and heels. It is also used to treat injuries, such as muscle and tendon injuries, and to treat inflammation, such as arthritis. APC therapy can be used as an alternative or complementary treatment to other treatments such as medication, natural remedies or chiropractic. It is important that APC therapy is carried out by a qualified healthcare provider to ensure that it is safe and effective.
